How counselling can help
There are times in all of our lives when things feel difficult. Maybe you are finding it difficult to cope in some way. Things might feel out of control, or you may feel sad or confused because of something that has happened. Maybe you want things to change or want to change something about yourself.
Counselling can help you to understand and deal with difficult feeling and situations. It can give you the safe space you need to explore your thoughts and feelings. Within our therapeutic relationship you can share what you need to, without fear of judgement. I can give you a confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings, somewhere where you can feel supported, secure and understood. We can work together to increase your understanding of yourself and move towards achieving your goals.
Having a safe, confidential space to talk things through, with someone who is not involved in your problems can really help to clear your head. Counselling can also help you to look more closely at the difficulties you are having. It can help you to look at unhelpful thoughts and patterns of behaviour, and to understand where they have come from.
Counselling is work that we do together. My aim is for us to identify what you want from our time together. I am not here to advise you, but I can support you in finding a greater understanding of you and your situation and help you to think about changes and finding a new way forward.
My Integrative approach is informed by a few counselling theories including person-centred, Psychodynamic, Interpersonal Psychodynamic Therapy (IPT) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). This provides me with a flexible approach to suite many individuals and difficulties.
